Corpse Reviver #2

The Corpse Reviver family of drinks has unclear origins, but they are mentioned in cocktail books as early as 1871 in The Gentleman’s Table Guide (an interesting read in its own right). This version, the Corpse Reviver #2, was included in Harry Craddock’s famous Savoy Cocktail Book published in 1930. He wrote, “To be taken before 11 a.m., or whenever steam and energy are needed.” Enjoy, but keep Craddock’s warning in mind, “Four of these taken in swift succession will quickly unrevive the corpse again.”

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 ounce Cointreau (triple sec can be substituted)
  • 3/4 ounce gin
  • 3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 3/4 ounce Lillet Blanc
  • Dash absinthe or Pernod
  • Ice

Instructions:
1. Place a cocktail glass in the freezer to chill.
2. Place the Cointreau, gin, lemon juice, Lillet, and absinthe or Pernod in a cocktail shaker and fill it halfway with ice. Shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker is frosted. Strain into the chilled glass.
