Pan con Chocolate, Aceite y Sal (Rustic Bread with Dark Chocolate, Olive Oil, and Sea Salt)

Bread with chocolate is a popular Spanish dessert. This dish is quite simple, but like many simple recipes, the quality of ingredients can make a big difference. Try to find a country-style bread with a thick crust and light interior with lots of holes, and use a good quality olive. For a more visually appealing presentation, use a Spanish flor de sal or a flake salt such as Maldon.

Ingredients:

  • Four 1/2-inch thick slices of country-style bread
  • 4 ounces dark chocolate
  • 4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • sea salt, to taste

Preparation:

Heat oven to 200ยบ F

Toast bread slices until browned in the oven or toaster. Break chocolate apart with a knife, and scatter the pieces across the toasted bread. Place on a baking sheet, and heat in oven until the chocolate melts (about 5 minutes). Remove from oven, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with a little sea salt. Allow to cool slightly, and serve.
