Fried Green Beans

These are a great alternative to French fries, and have even been known to convert picky eaters and vegetable haters. You can serve these with a dipping sauce (Ranch dressing or a remoulade sauce work well), but they’re tasty enough to eat on their own.

Ingredients:

  • 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 pound fresh green beans

Method:

Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Whisk together the flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder; set aside. Pour the buttermilk into a shallow dish.

Dip the green beans into the buttermilk, then into the flour mixture. Shake off any excess flour. Fry in the hot oil until the flour turns golden brown, about 4 minutes. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate, and serve hot.
