The Greyhound is not a fussy cocktail in any way, making it a great drink for beginning bartenders. If you give the glass a salt rim, it becomes a Salty Dog. As for whether to use gin or vodka, the choice is really entirely up to you. My husband prefers gin in his Greyhound, while I usually go with vodka, but both versions are equally good. My only recommendation is that you use high-quality spirits for best results. You may also want to roll the rosemary sprigs between your palms for a few seconds before garnishing in order to release more of the essential oils and flavors into the drink before serving.

  • 1 1/2 ounces gin or vodka
  • 6 ounces grapefruit juice (preferably fresh-squeezed)
  • Ice
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs, for garnish

Combine gin/vodka and grapefruit juice in shaker with ice; shake well until cold. Strain into glass, garnish with a fresh rosemary sprig, and serve.
